Although there was no competition this weekend, Sitari never stops!

On Saturday, our veterans donned their kits for a friendly match against the AFER (Association Franco-Espagnole de Rugby) team, who were touring Barcelona this weekend.

AFER is an association of French players who have lived in Spain or have ties to it, and Spaniards who have lived in or have some connection to France. The home team was a combined squad of friends from Pupas XV, some from Barça, and our CEU veterans.

As the saying goes, there are no “ex” rugby players, and since our bodies can still handle it, it was a fun but high-intensity match. Needless to say, the score was the least important thing, but we have to admit that AFER had a very strong team, and we put up a very respectable fight. A match that makes you feel truly alive, still full of energy, and enjoying rugby.

As expected, the match gave way to a long post-match gathering and a friendly dinner. All very “old school” with songs, toasts, and the exchange of gifts.

A fantastic day that reminds you that rugby is more than a sport; it’s a true global family, and there’s always a good excuse to lace up your boots and postpone retirement for one more match—until your body gives out!

It wasn’t all rugby

Since our friends from AFER were also visiting Barcelona, we organized a sightseeing tour for them on Friday so they could get to know our city a bit. After a visit to the modernist complex of the Hospital de Sant Pau, a visit to the Sagrada Familia was a must, followed by a walk along the entire Passeig de Gràcia.

Friends from AFER, we hope you had a great weekend in Barcelona—we did too! See you soon!
